This platform aims to align with the principles outlined in the Public Service Artificial Intelligence Framework for New Zealand. We are committed to the responsible use of AI technology. Here's how we approach alignment:
Trustworthy and Safe
The assistant is designed to focus exclusively on New Zealand context. We include a clear disclaimer that this service is not affiliated with the NZ government and that information provided by AI should always be verified. User authentication helps secure interactions.
Fair and Equitable
We strive to provide unbiased information relevant to New Zealand. While AI responses can sometimes contain inaccuracies or reflect biases present in training data, our focus on NZ context aims to mitigate irrelevant information. We also support multiple languages for input queries to improve accessibility, although translation quality may vary.
Transparent and Explainable
While the internal workings of the AI are complex, we aim for transparency in the output. Features like formatting required documents into checklists and providing contact details for organisations make the assistant's responses more practical and understandable. The "Public Beta" status and Changelog provide transparency about the system's development stage and recent changes.
Accountable
The prominent disclaimer helps set user expectations regarding the nature and limitations of the AI service. Labelling the service as "Public Beta" further indicates it is under active development. Internal logging aids in monitoring and improving the service, though logs are not publicly accessible.
Human-Centric
The platform is designed for user interaction, providing information based on user queries. The assistant's specific instructions to prioritize online options and provide clear formatting aim to serve user needs effectively. The emphasis on verifying information encourages human oversight.
Respectful of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Ensuring alignment with Te Tiriti principles, particularly regarding Māori data sovereignty, is an ongoing consideration. Currently, the strict focus on New Zealand context is a foundational step. Future development will further explore ways to embed Treaty principles more deeply.
Secure and Resilient
We employ standard security practices, including user authentication and secure connections (HTTPS for deployed environments), to protect user interactions and maintain service availability.
